One of our main priorities at KRCS is to provide access to education for all children of vulnerable communities living in Kuwait. Our 3rd annual education campaign, is our ongoing effort to aid families in their financial burden of keeping their children in school.
The campaign began in 2015 as a collaboration between KRCS and NBK, to pay partial school fees for the most vulnerable families in Kuwait. More than 13,000 parents registered their children for assistance. In our first year, we raised funds to assist 500 students. In our second year, we increased our efforts and raised funds to assist 2565 students.
Current Situation • Families are so burdened by the rising cost of education that they only register one or two of their children each year, leaving their siblings at home.
• Due to the financial strain of school fees, many vulnerable families opt to send the boys to school and leave the girls at home.
• Many vulnerable families send their children to school for only a limited number of years before they drop out so that their younger siblings can go to school.
Objectives • The campaign aims at easing the financial burden of school fees on vulnerable families, ensuring that more and more children stay in school. In turn, this contributes to decreasing illiteracy amongst vulnerable communities, empowering the new generation both economically and socially, and curbing the phenomenon of child peddlers.
• To equip the new generation of children of vulnerable communities with the right tools for success, beginning with access to education. Neglecting them makes them susceptible to extremism, terrorism, early marriage and child labor.
Results • Contribute to social stability of vulnerable communities which in turn, creates an educated, mindful and effective generation that feels part of and contributes to society.
• Empowering and enabling the youth of marginalized communities economically will, in the long run, contribute to the development and social security of the marginalized. • Long-term contribution to the Human Security of all residents of Kuwait
Kuwait Red Crescent Society believes that education is every child’s right. Therefore, we are working to support educational centers that accommodate different levels, inside refugee camps. The project will provide educational opportunities for children of different ages and help reduce child labor issues while at the same time providing job opportunities for the teachers living inside these refugee camps.DONATE
